The A's continued their momentum from the big comeback win of Game 1 of the OJALL quarter final playoffs as they took on the Six Nations Arrows in Game 2 of the series at Nations. The Double Blue surged out to a quick 5-2 lead in the first period, threatening to blow the series wide open. . Alex Simmons was on fire and picked up 4 goals in the first frame of the game.
However, the Arrows quickly turned the tables on The A's with a comeback win of their own as they battled back and picked up the 9-8 win on home turf. The series is now knotted at 1-1. Simmons finished up with 6 points in the losing cause on 5 goals and 1 assist for the A's Tehoka Nanticoke paced the Arrows to the win picking up 3 markers and an assist in the comeback win. Game 3 of the Best of 5 series continues on Sunday night with a 7:00 pm start at the Jack. This series is shaping up to be a classic battle and both teams will be looking to pickup the critical game 3 win to put a stranglehold on the series on Sunday night in St.Catharines. It was a hot night in Jack #PackTheJack last night for the Quarter Final Series Opener against the Six Nations Arrows.
However, things heated up even more when the A's and Arrows took the floor for a fiery action packed game as playoff intensity cranked up the temperature in the old Garden City Barn. The 500 strong attendees that braved the sweltering temperatures were rewarded with a great game of lacrosse as the A's picked up the 10-7 win over Six Nations. The Arrows definitely came to play in playoff form and gave the A's fits in the first half of the game. After falling behind 6-3, Coach Steve Toll called a time out and lit a fire under the Boys in Double Blue #doublebluecrew. After that, it was all A's as they took over the game outscoring the Arrows 7 to 1 in the second half and picked up the win in front of the home crowd. After getting off to a slow start, A's sniper Alex Simmons found his range leading the Athletics with 6 points on 3 Goals and 3 Assists, Athletics Netminder Nick Damude stopped 34 of 41 shots fired by the Arrows. Arrows and A's go at it again tonight for an 8:00pm game in Six Nations for Game 2 of the Best of 5 series. Game 3 will be played back home in St.Catharines on Sunday July 14th with a 7:00pm start at the Jack. This was the final regular season home game for 12 of the DoubleBlue crew. Check out the photos below. A few tears were shed as parents, friends and teammates reflected on the great memories of being a part of the St.Catharines Jr.A Athletics family. Tears turned to cheers as the boys went on to win the game and cap an impressive 15 and 5 season heading into the playoff race. Although it was the last regular season game for our dozen graduates, we hope to see them many, many more times wearing the double blue for an extended playoff run to the 2019 Minto. Thank you Grads for all your perseverance, dedication, great talents and good memories. Good Luck in the Playoffs and beyond!!!!! A's picked up the home win in the final game of the regular season with a 12-1 win over the Barrie Lakeshores. A's finished the regular season with a record of 15 wins against 5 losses.
Tyler Brown led the way for the A's, picking up 5 points on 3 goals and 2 assists. The win guarantees a spot in the top 3 of the OJALL standings and means that the A's will host their first playoff opponents to be determined by the end of this week. Playoffs start next Wednesday.
